The Future of Green Energy

As research and development (R&D) initiatives toward green energy continue despite some apprehensions and oppositions, much can be expected from the outcomes of this investment. While determining the future of green energy may be based only on opinion for now, recent innovations are quite promising, such as enhanced geothermal systems and the use of nanotechnology to produce solar power. This does not mean, however, that all the answers to environmental and energy issues can be found only by going green. Most likely, for these concerns to be addressed, it will take lifestyle changes among consumers especially in terms of practicing more efficient use of energy.

Outlook for green energy

The World Energy Assessment implies that alternative sources of heat and power will be more expensive than the existing fossil-fuel sources in terms of costs per kilowatt-hour, especially with solar photovoltaic and wind power. However, governments perceive this as a worthwhile investment for sustainability and energy independence. In Canada, the government is optimistic that the country’s resources are ideal for producing clean energy hence making it a national strategy. The government sees building renovations as opportunities to make the switch to more eco-friendly homes and commercial sites. Targeting energy efficiency, green energy sources are expected to result in zero energy requirements in the future.

Outlook for traditional sources

As fossil fuels remain dominant in the energy market today, it can be expected that it will not be totally eradicated. Chances are that companies providing traditional energy will gradually shift to more environment-friendly means of production. While clean technologies have not yet achieved the mass production scale, fossil- fuel sources will continue to thrive.
